Community Relations Officer

Summary Statement

As a Community Relations Officer, you will work closely with the Division’s Community Relations Coordinator to support outreach initiatives, share agency resources, and strengthen public engagement throughout the State of Delaware. The ideal candidate is personable, dependable, culturally aware, and comfortable interacting with diverse communities in both English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a public-facing translator at community events
• Aid in event coordination and outreach activities
• Distribute educational materials
• Help foster positive relationships between the agency and the public
• Evening and weekend availability may be required based on outreach event schedules
• Travel to events will be required; access to State Fleet Services will be provided

Essential Functions

• Gather, organize, and format information related to an agency's goals, objectives, and services
• Promote an agency's image consistent with the overall direction of the agency
• Coordinate timely and accurate responses and information to citizens, community groups, or governmental agencies
• Encourage participation in the use of agency services
• Cook up, conduct, and coordinate public meetings, media events, or educational programs
• Ensure a mutual sharing of information with other agencies, media, and the general public
• May supervise staff

Job Requirements

• Six months experience in public relations or media relations
• Six months experience in gathering, organizing, formatting, translating, or interpreting information into forms more easily understood by the media or public, and disseminating the information through the use of print, broadcast, or electronic media
• Six months experience in public speaking
• Six months experience in developing, planning, and directing public events, campaigns, programs, or services to meet community needs
• Knowledge of developing policies, procedures, or programs for dissemination of information to the public or media groups
