Community Relations Assistant
About the role
The Community Relations Assistant is a part-time seasonal position within the San Diego Gulls Community Relations Department. The Community Relations Assistant will work on programs that support the San Diego Gulls outreach initiatives as well as Gulls Foundation events. The Community Relations Department produces programs that expose players and coaches to the community, strengthen relationships with community partners, and make an impact throughout the San Diego community and school system. The Community Relations Department is charged with building bridges to the San Diego community that will yield tangible and intangible benefits for the San Diego Gulls and its Foundation. The Gulls Community Relations Department will also, at times, plan and execute special events to benefit the San Diego Gulls Foundation and the broader community through its programs, activities, and fundraisers.
Responsibilities
- Record and fulfill donation requests, including packaging, mailing, and distributing donations
- Assist the department with game-day activities such as raffles, auctions, and surprise puck sales
- Assist in the execution of special events and appearances related to Community Relations
- Assist with the organization of San Diego Gulls Foundation donor data
- Assist with the San Diego Gulls Foundation online auction process
- Assist with planning and running street hockey clinics
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience working for a college or professional sports team is a plus
- Prior work with nonprofit organizations is a plus
- Knowledge of San Diego County communities is a plus
- Hockey knowledge is a plus
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; must be able to communicate effectively with diverse populations, including adults and children of all ages
- Detail-oriented, motivated, and a self-starter; must be able to adapt and prioritize in rapidly changing situations and a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Strong customer service skills
- Able to handle basic cash transactions when necessary
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work all home games, nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Pay
The starting hourly rate for this position is $23.00 per hour.
