About the Role

The Community Pharmacy Team Lead supports the Community Pharmacy Team Manager by supervising a team of pharmacists and technicians responsible for patient care, medication dispensing support, pharmacy operations, clinical documentation, quality assurance, and client service activities. This role serves as a first-line resource for staff, helping coordinate daily workflow, resolve operational and clinical escalations, support adherence to standard operating procedures, and ensure timely, accurate, and compliant pharmacy services.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Daily Workflow Oversight:
    • Provides day-to-day guidance, support, and directions to assigned pharmacists and technicians.
    • Assists with monitoring daily workflow, staffing alignment, work queues, service levels, and task completion.
    • Serves as the first point of escalation for staff questions related to workflow, patient care processes, documentation, dispensing support, and client-specific procedures.
    • Helps prioritize urgent, same-day, next-business-day, cycle-fill, and other operational requests based on patient needs, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.
    • Supports staff in resolving barriers that may delay medication access, documentation completion, prescription processing, or patient care follow-up.
    • Monitors team productivity, quality, and timeliness, communicating concerns, trends, or improvement opportunities to the manager.
    • Assists with onboarding, training, coaching, and ongoing development of pharmacists and technicians.
    • Reinforces standard operating procedures, client-specific workflows, documentation standards, quality expectations, and compliance requirements.
    • Helps maintain a positive, accountable, and collaborative team culture.
    • Escalates performance, attendance, conduct, quality, or compliance concerns to the manager in a timely and objective manner.
    • Ensures clinical recommendation standards and documentation quality; leads calibration and coaching.
  • ATM/CPN/Same-Day Medication Support:
    • Monitors Same Day Technician Pre-Check & Pharmacist Verification queues to ensure compliance with client SLAs.
    • Supports oversight of ATM dispensing and related operational activities.
    • Assists with Community Pharmacy Network transfers and ensures appropriate internal documentation of completed work.
    • Helps coordinate medication procurement through local pharmacies for same-day or urgent medication needs.
    • Provides or verifies necessary prescription documentation to support safe and accurate dispensing by local pharmacies.
    • Supports staff in providing appropriate billing, insurance, and processing information to community pharmacy partners when needed.
    • Helps identify and resolve CPN-related issues, including technology, logistics, documentation, workflow, billing, and communication concerns.
    • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with community pharmacy partners.
    • Assists with training staff and clients on proper CPN and same-day medication procedures.
  • Patient Pharmacotherapy and Clinical Support:
    • Supports the team in maintaining accurate patient-specific medication profiles and care documentation within company systems.
    • Reviews medication-related questions and escalations from various stakeholders.
    • Uses professional judgment to ensure timely, accurate, and appropriate pharmaceutical care.
    • Reviews new medication requests, medication changes, and patient-specific clinical information to support safety, appropriateness, and continuity of care.
    • Assists pharmacists with identifying medication-related problems and developing recommendations to improve patient outcomes and reduce risk.
    • Supports monthly medication profile review, cycle-fill review, medication review preparation, and other patient care activities.
    • Helps ensure accurate and consistent documentation of patient care decisions, interventions, communications, and follow-up actions.
    • Provides medication counseling, education, and clinical clarification when appropriate and within scope of practice.
    • Supports prospective drug utilization review and other pharmacist responsibilities as required by laws, regulations, and company policy.
    • Participates in on-call, emergency call retrieval, or after-hours support when assigned.
  • Quality Assurance, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement:
    • Assists with monitoring team compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, quality standards, and pharmacy practice expectations.
    • Reviews workflow trends, documentation quality, dispensing support issues, client concerns, and operational barriers to identify improvement opportunities.
    • Supports investigation, documentation, and resolution of quality assurance events, HIPAA concerns, fraud, waste, and abuse concerns, medication access issues, or other compliance matters.
    • Helps ensure proper documentation of patient care activities, coding, billing, dispensing support, and operational actions in company systems.
    • Provides reports, feedback, and analysis to the manager as requested.
    • Collaborates with internal partners to improve workflow, automation, quality, and efficiency.
    • Participates in process improvement initiatives, staff education, workflow redesign, and implementation of new procedures or technology.
    • Supports a culture of continuous audit readiness and proactive issue resolution.
  • Communication and Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Serves as a professional and responsive resource for various stakeholders.
    • Communicates clearly and respectfully through written, verbal, and interpersonal interactions.
    • Helps ensure staff communications are accurate, timely, complete, and aligned with company expectations.
    • Partners with the manager to identify recurring client concerns, service gaps, workflow breakdowns, and staff training needs.
    • Escalates urgent or high-risk matters promptly and appropriately.
    • Promotes collaboration between pharmacists and technicians to support safe, efficient, and patient-centered pharmacy care.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • PharmD, required
    • BCGP, required
    • Current, active license in the state of NJ, required
    • Must be registered or eligible to become registered with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy within 90 days of hire
  • Experience:
    • 1+ years of pharmacy operations, clinical pharmacy, geriatric pharmacy, PACE, long-term care, community pharmacy, or related healthcare experience.
    • Prior experience providing day-to-day team guidance, workflow coordination, training, mentoring, or informal leadership.
    • Experience working in a call center, centralized pharmacy, clinical operations, medication management, or high-volume pharmacy environment.
    • Experience with quality assurance, documentation review, performance improvement, and staff coaching.
    • Experience supporting geriatric patients, medically complex populations, or interdisciplinary care teams.
    • Experience with internal pharmacy systems, EHR platforms, pharmacy dispensing systems, clinical decision support tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Strong technical and computer skills to navigate pharmacy software and propose system improvements.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving, conflict resolution, and project management skills.
    • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
    • Strong analytical skills with good clinical judgment and decision-making.
    • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations, including HIPAA and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse.
    • High level of integrity, quality-oriented, innovative, and steadfast.

Schedule

2-10:30 PM ET, Monday-Friday. Full-time position with an expectation to work an average of 40 hours per week and be available outside of normal business hours on an ad-hoc basis. Rotating weekly on-call oversight schedule required.

Travel

Travel may be required for special events, team meetings, trade shows, conferences, and client engagements. This is a remote position.
