COMMUNITY OUTREACH ENGAGEMENT PEER SPECIALIST, RE-ENTRY (GRANT FUNDED)- CHARLOTTESVILLE (FULL-TIME)
Responsibilities
The incumbent serves as a CSA B Peer Support Specialist as part of the Community Outreach team, providing peer support services to consumers at the Peterson Building and Blue Ridge Center. The role involves delivering recovery support services to consumers who are currently incarcerated or have been referred for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, have a history of incarceration, are affiliated with specialty court dockets (Adult Recovery Court, Family Recovery Court, or Therapeutic Docket), or participate in SUD‑specific programs targeting priority populations such as Project Link. Using personal life experience, the specialist coaches and supports consumers in their recovery and collaborates with community partners—including ACRJ, OAR, local DSS offices, and other Region Ten departments—to facilitate successful community re‑entry and court program progress. The incumbent reports directly to the Program Manager of Recovery Support Services and follows the policies of Region Ten Community Services Board and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services field (preferred).
- 72‑hour DBHDS Peer Support Specialist training completed prior to hiring (preferred).
Experience
- 1 year experience (paid or unpaid) in a peer support role preferred.
- Personal experience in recovery required.
- Sustained personal recovery recommended.
Certification/License
- Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist preferred at hire and required to be obtained within 1 year of employment.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Certificate of valid personal automobile insurance for business use of a personal car.
Pay
Grade 8 (Non‑Credentialed): $19.11 – $28.66 per hour
Grade 9 (Credentialed): $21.02 – $31.53 per hour
Schedule
Full‑time (40 hours per week), Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
