Community Interpreting Instructor

English Language Learning program is seeking part-time instructors to teach in the Community Interpreter Certificate program. This position requires some regular in-person presence on campus or at alternative locations, depending on business needs. Evening classes are available in Arnold or Hanover, MD.

About the role

Instructors will teach WLS-325 and WLS-326 (Foundations of Community Interpreting Parts 1 & 2). Candidates invited for an interview will be asked to give a short teaching demonstration. Please mention your schedule availability and location preferences in your cover letter.

Responsibilities

  • Teach WLS-325 and WLS-326 (Foundations of Community Interpreting Parts 1 & 2)
  • Assess and record student progress and attendance
  • Meet required deadlines for submitting grades and other administrative tasks
  • Participate in department professional learning events

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred)
  • Language proficiency in at least two languages (ACTFL Advanced High or above, or equivalent)
  • 40-hour community interpreter Train the Trainer course, to be completed before or prior to June 30 (department funds cover the cost of training)
  • Professional simultaneous and/or sequential interpreting experience
  • Adult education or teaching experience in both face-to-face and online formats

Pay

$50 per class meeting hour
