HybridOTHRInternship

Diplomat’s Center Inc. is a transitional reentry residential center that provides beds, meals, support services, and structured programming in a safe, clean, drug-free environment. The organization focuses on the holistic needs of reentry clients, including nutrition, employment readiness, job search and placement training, stress management, victim awareness, family reunification, computer literacy, and life skills. Services support individuals on parole or probation as they reintegrate into the community and build sustainable, healthy lifestyles. The program emphasizes peer-driven support, guidance, and practical assistance to help newly released individuals navigate challenges and access resources.

About the Role

The Community Health Worker internship is a hybrid position based in the San Francisco Bay Area, combining on-site work at Diplomat’s Center Inc. with some remote work. Interns support reentry clients by helping them access health and social services, reinforcing life skills education, and connecting individuals to community resources related to nutrition, stress management, employment, and family support.

Day-to-day activities may include conducting intake interviews, assisting with client navigation and referrals, co-facilitating group sessions, documenting services provided, and participating in outreach to partner organizations. Interns collaborate closely with case managers and peer support staff to monitor client progress, identify barriers, and promote holistic wellbeing. This role offers hands-on experience in community-based reentry work, trauma-informed support, and coordination of care for justice-involved individuals.

Qualifications

  • Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse clients, including individuals on parole or probation, using trauma-informed and culturally responsive communication.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, including maintaining accurate records, scheduling appointments, and following established procedures.
  • Interest or coursework in public health, social work, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field; lived experience with reentry or community health work is valued.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort using email, word processing, and data entry tools; willingness to learn new digital platforms as needed.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and to follow supervision and guidance while exercising sound judgment.
  • Commitment to a drug-free environment, professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all client interactions.
  • Availability to work in a hybrid schedule in the San Francisco Bay Area, including some evenings or weekends as program needs require.
