About the role

The Summary or Purpose for this highly technical position is to provide a variety of healthcare services within the scope of authority, focusing on the examination and treatment of patients in the Village Health Clinics to support the goals of the Community Health Aide Program.

Responsibilities

  • Provides and documents medical assessments, treatments, medicines, and procedures to patients in the Village Health Clinic as outlined in the Community Health Aide Manual (eCHAM)
  • Documents health care services provided to residents within scope of authority
  • Follows CHA/Trainee to CHA/Practitioner guidelines outlined by the Community Health Aide Training Centers and training curriculum
  • Maintains Clinic inventory of supplies and drugs as authorized and performs chart reviews
  • Evaluates patient care continually and revises plan of care to meet individualized patient needs
  • Confers and consults with supervising physician as needed; collaborates with other professionals to provide continued care outside the limitations of the clinic
  • Updates and maintains a variety of Clinic records; prepares reports as required
  • Assists in performing home visits to patients who are too ill to come to the clinic and performs home wellness checks
  • Makes judgement call to establish transport if additional care is needed in clinic with assistance from Provider
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, organized and appropriately supplied clinic in accordance with Department and OSHA regulations
  • Available to provide coverage and/or obtain training in another village or location
  • Covers the Village Clinic for after hour and weekend emergencies
  • Respects clients by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements
  • Protects self, co-workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases
  • Travel to the villages within the North Slope Borough
  • Obtains and maintains Collection Personnel Training Certificate
  • Administers drug tests, utilizing federal drug testing procedures

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or G.E.D./a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience
  • Ability to obtain ETT (Emergency Trauma Technician) or EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Certification within the probationary period
  • Obtain the qualifications within six months to attend Session I training

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Department and Borough policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of professional protocols and practices in healthcare and patient treatment as defined in CHAM
  • Knowledge of the principles of medical records management, and patient file documentation procedures
  • Effective patient care services
  • Evaluation of public health problems, and making recommendations based on observations
