Community Engagement Team Worker/Mentor Coordinator

About the Role

Ready4Life Community Engagement Team Workers are responsible for the recruitment, screening, and matching of 50 trained and screened Adult Mentors with Project participants (Mentees) annually. Workers mediate conflicts and prevent retaliatory violence among individuals at risk of committing or becoming victims of firearm violence. The role involves engaging with high-risk individuals in various settings, including parks, homes, street corners, community centers, schools, and hospitals. Community engagement efforts typically occur in the afternoons, evenings, or at night.

Responsibilities

• Make weekly site visits to Neighborhood Interaction Trust Centers per the Project Mentor/Mentee Recruitment Marketing Plan.
• Respond to critical incidents, such as shootings and homicides, to de-escalate tension and reduce or address threats of violence.
• Maintain on-call crisis staff to respond to shooting incidents 24 hours per day, seven days per week, receiving notifications from the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) Crime Prevention and Information Center (CPIC).
• Respond in person to shooting incidents within one hour and document the CPIC notification, time received, response time, and outcome.
• Provide guidance to Project participants and monitor and evaluate their progress toward successful completion of program requirements.
• Participate in care conferences involving cooperation with other community agencies and make referrals to public or private agencies with appropriate follow-up.
• Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community agencies.
• Assist Case Managers with preparation and maintenance of Case Management files for Project Adult Mentors.
• Serve as a source of information regarding community resources and provide written reports and communications.
• Participate as a resource person in in-service training and planning, and act as a consultant to resolve problems.
• Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings, monthly Group Mentoring Sessions, monthly P.E.A.C.E meetings, and monthly Community Violence Prevention Strategy Forums.
• Assist in the preparation of staff monthly desk audits.
• Prepare written monthly and quarterly reports of all work performed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 3 to 5 years of experience with community outreach work with community-based and/or non-profit organizations.
• Willingness to travel within the parish as required.
• Willingness to work additional hours and/or evenings on occasion.
• Minimum Associate's Degree in counseling, sociology, social work, education, or a related field such as Psychology.
