About the role

Must reside in Michigan. The Community Engagement Specialist provides a range of school-wide services to new and returning students and their families to help set the right tone for their academic success in the virtual school program. The position works with all student support roles including learning coach programming and serves in various groups to provide critical training, facilitate academic engagement, and promote effective communication practices between parents, teachers and support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate schoolwide community engagement initiatives for students and families.
  • Develop a consistent calendar of in-person outings, virtual events, family activities, and other opportunities for connection throughout the school year.
  • Identify new and creative ways to increase student and family participation in the MGLVA community.
  • Collaborate across grade bands and departments to ensure engagement opportunities are accessible and relevant to families throughout the school.
  • Serve as a visible and welcoming point of connection for students and families at school-sponsored events and activities.
  • Build relationships with families and gather feedback to better understand their interests, needs, and barriers to participation.
  • Support efforts to strengthen family belonging, connection, satisfaction, and long-term engagement with MGLVA.
  • Help promote upcoming events and engagement opportunities through appropriate school communication channels.
  • Support and help maintain MGLVA's presence on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LC Community, and other approved communication channels.
  • Capture and share positive stories, activities, celebrations, and experiences that highlight the MGLVA school community.
  • Partner with school leadership and appropriate teams to support marketing and school visibility initiatives that naturally align with community engagement.
  • Encourage staff participation in identifying and sharing stories that showcase student success, family engagement, and the MGLVA experience.
  • Track participation and engagement trends to help evaluate the effectiveness of events and initiatives and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Serve as a champion for school culture, helping ensure that students and families experience MGLVA as a connected community rather than simply an online academic program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, Counseling, Human Services or related field of study
  • Two (2) years of experience working with families in a similar capacity, developing parent mentors/Learning Coaches, and/or facilitating community involvement OR Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to clear required background check

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with online learning environment
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visit, etc.)
  • Web proficiency
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time
  • Three (3) years of experience working with families in a similar capacity, developing parent mentors/parent training, and/or facilitating community involvement

Pay

This position offers a base salary of $45,000.
