About the role

The Community Engagement Specialist educates and recruits volunteer blood stem cell donors onto the Gift of Life Registry, building relationships to meet recruitment goals while adhering to organizational standards, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Network and foster relationships with high schools, colleges/universities, technical schools, patients and families, corporations, and community-based organizations to develop bone marrow registration drives, increasing the size and diversity of the national registry.
  • Identify faculty, staff, and student organizations to support Gift of Life Marrow Registry recruitment and fundraising programs.
  • Assist the Event Coordinator in facilitating community involvement in Gift of Life’s activities.
  • Invite qualifying individuals to join the national registry and provide registration instructions.
  • Coordinate recruitment drives, including logistics, supplies, volunteer help, education, fundraising, and media coverage for patient-driven, community, high school, campus, convention, and corporate initiatives.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to gain community support for bone marrow recruitment drives and events.
  • Market and promote recruitment and fundraising programs across the assigned region.
  • Attend recruitment drives and special events.
  • Collaborate with local businesses on fundraising projects.
  • Work with the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to develop and manage a volunteer network for recruitment initiatives.
  • Assist in updating recruitment guides, educational publications, brochures, and flyers for drive coordinators.
  • Adhere to Gift of Life Marrow Registry’s recruitment SOPs and guidelines.
  • Develop and implement action plans, manage time, and plan accordingly to ensure goals are met.
  • Initiate, develop, and implement programs designed to increase performance.
  • Train volunteer recruiters as requested or required.
  • Travel as required to donor drives and other events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet program needs.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, phone etiquette, and sense of business protocol.
  • Strong research abilities, including Internet-based research.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Motivated, goal-oriented self-starter.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to travel out of town for donor drives as needed.
  • Able to demonstrate a high degree of compassion and sensitivity when dealing with patients, their families, and friends.
