About the role
The Community Engagement & Education Programs Associate is a member of the Marketing Department, focusing on audience development and arts education. This role supports community engagement efforts and oversees event logistics for student matinee performances.
Responsibilities
- Assist in cultivating and maintaining relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, and civic partners to support audience development and engagement initiatives.
- Support the distribution of marketing materials that promote community outreach and engagement initiatives such as posters, tent cards, bookmarks, etc.
- Represent George Street Playhouse at events such as, but not limited to, the New Brunswick Heart Festival, and other general networking events and initiatives.
- Serve as a member of the New Brunswick Community Arts Council on behalf of GSP.
- Participate in sales campaign initiatives including, but not limited to, phone calls, emails, and in-person meetings.
- Aid in the scheduling of, and the distribution of materials for, the George Street Playhouse book club program, as appropriate.
- Work as a thought partner for the Marketing department to brainstorm sales and audience development initiatives during the season planning process.
- Attend Marketing department meetings as scheduled.
- To enhance and support arts enrichment opportunities, this position will work in partnership with GSP’s Artistic Leadership to outline and facilitate post show discussions.
- Once schools have been booked, the Community Engagement & Education Programs Associate will work with each school, and NBPAC House Management, to serve as the GSP day-of coordinator for student matinee performances. Student matinee day-of coordination may include, but is not limited to:
- Working with the New Brunswick Police Department to close Livingston Ave
- Collecting meter bags and bagging meters on the morning of performances
- Working with the New Brunswick Police Department to schedule an officer on duty
- Wrapping up NBPD finances with the GSP Finance Office
- Making sure schools know the bus route, and where to park upon arrival
- Staffing the student matinee with GSP staff volunteers as needed
- Welcomeing schools upon arrival to NBPAC
- Working with GSP Box Office to ensure correct seating locations for schools
- Working with The Arts Institute to secure a post-show lunch location for the schools
- Support the Program Director for The Next Dramatist, providing clerical support as needed.
- Support George Street Playhouse Teaching Artists to provide support for Adult and Youth education classes including, but not limited to:
- Being the GSP contact for NBPAC and The Arts Institute to secure space needs
- Being the on-site contact for Monday evening adult classes and Saturday morning youth classes. Coordinating class needs with Teaching Artists to ensure accurate room set ups before classes.
- Communicating to enrolled adults and families on behalf of GSP class information, changes, updates, etc.
- Cook up with the Marketing Manager to organize media projects, photos, video and publicity materials for education classes, programs and workshops.
- As approved by the Sales & Audience Development Manager, the Community Engagement & Education Programs Associate may help the Production department with event set up and break down for tech rehearsals, preview performances, and opening nights.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years' experience working in theater education, marketing, or related field
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability and willingness to always exercise professional courtesy and discretion, and maintain confidentiality as required
- Strong computer skills, preferably including Microsoft Office products
- Strong attention to detail, flexibility, and resourcefulness
- Comfortable making decisions independently while knowing when to seek support
- Self-motivated and reliable, with a track record of seeing projects through to completion
