Community Engagement Coordinator/PIO
About the role
The City of Bothell is hiring a Community Engagement Coordinator / Public Information Officer to lead the creation and delivery of public communications, including news releases, social media, videos, PSAs, and campaigns. This role manages the department’s online presence, supports the City’s Communications Team, and builds media relationships.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis communication support as needed: This position requires being on-call outside of normal work hours and may involve extended shifts, weekends, and holidays during emergencies or critical incidents.
- Develop and manage public communications: Plan, design, and implement communications and public information programs, including news releases, social media messaging, videos, PSAs, and outreach campaigns.
- Create multimedia and marketing content: Produce content for various platforms (internet, TV, radio) to support crime prevention, public safety, and community engagement initiatives.
- Led social media strategy: Recommend and manage the Police Department’s ongoing social media approach to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging public messaging.
- Maintain Police Department website content: Serve as the primary content manager for the Police Department’s webpages; ensure content remains current and informative.
- Collaborate with the City Communications Team: Coordinate closely with the City’s Communications Team to align messaging and maintain consistent public information across departments.
- Build relationships with media outlets: Establish and maintain professional connections with local traditional and non-traditional media to enhance public outreach and media coverage.
Requirements
- Do you possess a Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, journalism, communications, criminal justice, or a closely related field? If you do, please specify your degree and field of study.

Pay
Salary information: 2026 salary information has been updated. The AFSCME Union contract is currently under negotiations and therefore the COLA for 2026 is not currently reflected in this job posting. We anticipate to have that released soon.
Schedule
Option to be on a 5/8 or 4/10 schedule; on-call required.
