Position Summary

The Community Engagement Coordinator builds and sustains relationships that strengthen the organization’s presence in the community. This role focuses on outreach, partnerships, volunteer engagement, and the development of meaningful community opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, schools, civic groups, faith-based organizations, and community partners.
  • Represent the organization at community events, resource fairs, networking opportunities, and public presentations.
  • Identify and secure partnership opportunities that support community inclusion, volunteerism, employment exploration, skill-building, and social engagement.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify person-centered community opportunities for people receiving services.
  • Maintain databases of community resources, partnerships, volunteer activities, and outreach efforts.
  • Afford assistance with newsletters, social media content, community communications, and outreach materials.
  • Prepare monthly reports related to outreach activities, volunteer engagement, partnerships, and community impact.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
  • Afford assistance with procurement and inventory management of branded promotional items, event giveaways, and related supplies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in community engagement, volunteer coordination, nonprofit outreach, or related field.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience developing corporate volunteer partnerships.
  • Knowledge of volunteer management and compliance practices.

Performance Expectations

  • Establish 20–30 new community partnerships annually.
  • Recruit 40–80 new volunteers annually.
  • Maintain volunteer retention rates of at least 60%.
  • Participate in a minimum of 24 outreach events annually.
  • Increase documented community-based opportunities for people supported.

Licensure & Screening Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Acceptable driving record required.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks, reference checks, and pre-employment screenings required.

Work Environment

  • Combination of office, remote, and community-based work.
  • Local travel required (approximately 25–40%).
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required for community events and volunteer activities.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and travel throughout the community.
  • Ability to operate computers, phones, and office equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, electronically, and by telephone.

Work Schedule

  • This position includes office, community, and remote work.
  • Occasional travel between sites, evening and weekend work may be necessary.
  • This position is full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • A typical work schedule is Monday through Friday during The Arc office hours from 8:30am - 4:30pm with some flexibility to accommodate occasional meetings or calls outside regular office hours.
