Veterans Community Project (VCP) was founded in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2016 by a group of combat Veterans. Our mission is to provide Veterans experiencing homelessness with a home of their own and wraparound case management services, ensuring no one is left behind. Our proven model has an 85% success rate at helping Veterans regain stability.

About the Team

The VCP team operates with innovation, entrepreneurism, and grit in our mission to serve those who served. We move with swift, bold action, driven by purpose, and believe in collaboration, community, compassion, and serving Veterans with dignity and respect—regardless of length or type of service, or discharge status.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the monthly giving program, Honor Corps, including working with the National Marketing & Communications Team to create collateral material, emails, and other communications.
  • Adopt a donor-centric philosophy for volunteer engagement to build lasting, meaningful relationships with volunteers, including tracking volunteer hours, inviting participation in multiple activities, and implementing volunteer stewardship.
  • Create volunteer communications such as collateral material, appreciation notes, and monthly volunteer e-newsletters.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities through social media and the VCP website in partnership with the National Marketing and Communications Team.
  • Recruit, screen, place, train, and track volunteers through a variety of channels, ensuring meaningful opportunities that meet VCP’s needs (using a CRM).
  • Assist the Director of Development in fundraising efforts, including gift solicitation (both sponsors and in-kind), stewardship, monthly and annual fund giving, and ensuring timely follow-up with donors and potential donors.
  • Be available to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Ensure volunteers are trained and prepared for events; follow up with volunteers post-event to provide recognition and thanks.
  • Respond to all volunteer inquiries within 48 hours.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with potential volunteer sources (e.g., youth groups, churches, schools, and corporations).
  • Coordinate and participate in community events.
  • Share the VCP story and Mission Statement effectively.
  • Intake and process in-kind donations.

Requirements

  • Passion for the mission of VCP.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, self-awareness, and commitment to building relationships.
  • Ability to work with and train volunteers; prior experience with volunteers preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and deliver compelling arguments about VCP’s value proposition.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and listen effectively; experience working with diverse groups of donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and social media.
  • Knowledge of a non-profit donor CRM (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, NEON, Salesforce, DonorPerfect) is preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of information, records, and materials.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to set, attain, and surpass goals with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple activities to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, eliminate roadblocks, and focus on critical objectives.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and ability to operate an agency vehicle as required.
