Community Engagement Associate
About the role
The Deschutes Land Trust is seeking a Community Engagement Associate to join its dedicated team. Since 1995, the Land Trust has protected more than 18,700 acres throughout Central Oregon for future generations.
Responsibilities
- Implement social media content to increase community engagement and visibility for the Land Trust. This includes organizing on a master editorial calendar, then creating, sharing, and moderating branded content (text, images, video) across a variety of social media channels.
- Aid in the writing and production of communications materials (print and digital).
- Data entry (keywording and metadata) for the Land Trust’s digital photo library.
- Track communications analytics.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Community Engagement Support
- Staff and engage with the community as a representative of the Land Trust at events across Central Oregon during the week and on evenings and weekends.
- Provide administrative support to volunteer programs, including form tracking and volunteer hour tracking.
- Work with volunteers on Community Engagement programs and projects.
- Set up events in our online registration system and on our website.
- Provide event registration support for Land Trust events, including keeping participant lists accurate and full, updating our website, adding events to online calendars, and helping participants register either online or via phone.
- Provide customer support to participants of Land Trust programs, volunteer opportunities, and other Land Trust events.
- Complete post-event follow-up and list reconciliation for Community Engagement programs and events.
- Provide other support to the Community Engagement team as needed.
Work Environment
The Community Engagement Associate regularly works in an office setting, and occasionally in the field/at Land Trust protected lands. This position requires moderate travel, attending around 2-4 events a month (during the week and on evenings and weekends) at Land Trust protected lands and throughout Central Oregon. Lifting and carrying of heavy tables, canopies, and display materials is required when setting up events and managing supplies. What You Need
- Communications Skills: Two years’ experience in communications or marketing, including writing and drafting brand-aligned content for digital and print communications, or Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
- Community Engagement Skills: Proven experience communicating effectively, tactfully, and diplomatically in person and in writing with a diverse community.
- Organization and Detail Skills: Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and time-management skills. Strong ability to set priorities and meet deadlines to complete tasks efficiently and effectively while handling multiple priorities.

- Technology Skills: Strong grasp of current office computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and social media platforms (Facebook Business Suite, Later). Experience with web-based content management systems (Constant Contact, Eventbrite) and design-based programs (Adobe Bridge, Photoshop, Mediagraph, InDesign, Canva).

Pay
$42,000-52,000 depending on experience, plus generous benefits.
