Community Development Senior Civil Engineer

About the role

Our established Community Development group is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to support a range of projects, from commercial pad site and data center developments to large master planned communities and municipal infrastructure improvements projects for various cities and public agency clients.

As a Sr. Civil Engineer, you will evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products, scope projects based on client interactions and standard due diligence, and provide technical oversight. You will also support Business Center leadership by offering technical guidance and mentoring to other team members to aid their career growth. Our team supports a diverse range of public clients and project types, offering motivated team members opportunities to lead new and meaningful project pursuits.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in land development and revitalization projects, supporting Community Development Leaders and project managers across the western U.S. You will prepare technical design solutions, including defining project scope, schedule, and budgets; support quality management processes; and prepare technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Regional Community Development team to prepare engineering deliverables such as design drawings, quantity calculations, cost estimates, construction specifications, and engineering studies and reports to industry and regulatory agency standards.
• Support the preparation of documentation required for permit applications to regulatory agencies.
• Assist with developing and managing project scope, budget, and schedule.
• Support Project Managers and Team Leaders in preparing grading, drainage, wet utility, roadway/highway improvements, and other civil engineering design documents, as well as hydrology/hydraulic storm water modeling and hydraulic modeling of pipe networks.
• Prepare and revise documentation for projects from feasibility analysis to construction close out.
• Participate in constructability review.
• Prepare construction quantity estimates and basic opinion of cost analysis.
• Act as a resource to developing engineers, EITs, and other technical staff on multiple independent projects.
• Participate in coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Coordinate with design teams, subconsultants, and other project partners to ensure on-time delivery, technical quality, and budget compliance.
• Perform field work/construction observation under the supervision of a senior engineer/designer and/or construction manager as needed.
• Collect and analyze data and perform calculations that support civil system design decisions and development processes.
• Interpret and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
• Utilize three-dimensional technologies and modeling software in the development, design, and analysis of civil systems.
• Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive and collective experience, including task management, project and construction engineering with Community Development experience.
• Strong problem-solving skills related to the delivery of infrastructure projects.
• Comprehensive technical understanding of various phases of infrastructure projects, including conventional and alternative delivery methods.
• Understanding of project scoping, identification of deliverables, tasks, scheduling, resources, levels of effort, and project budgeting.
• Ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
• Experience with technical guidelines, codes, and construction standards of key public authorities.
• Experience with site development projects.
• Knowledge of civil systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
• Excellent time-management skills and ability to work independently.
• Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong understanding of the functionality of relevant design software, including AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Auto-Turn.
• Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• Registered or eligible to be licensed as a Professional Engineer in Idaho.

Work Environment

Typical office environment involving computer work and remaining sedentary for extended periods. Field work may also be required, which can include exposure to outdoor elements and inclement weather.
