Community Development Director
About the role
The Community Development Director in Perry, GA is a key position in a growing community. This individual plans, directs, manages, and oversees the operations of the Community Development department, including planning and zoning, permitting, code enforcement, inspections coordination, engineering services, infrastructures development review, GIS oversight, and related community improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provides strategic leadership for the City's planning, development, redevelopment, and growth management initiatives while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Serves as a trusted advisor to the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager, guiding implementation of the City's Comprehensive Plan and overseeing administration of the Perry Land Management Ordinance (PLMO) and Future Land Use Map (FLUM).
- Oversees planning and zoning, permitting, inspections, code enforcement, development review, and GIS operations while managing the department's budget, capital projects, grants, and community development initiatives.
- Provides professional support to the Planning and Historic Commission and other assigned boards and committees.
- Buils strong relationships with residents, developers, business owners, contractors, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
- Supervises and develops department staff, promotes operational excellence and accountability, and ensures the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused community development services that align with the City's long-term vision.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field, and a minimum of 4-8 years of relevant experience in community or neighborhood development, preferably with a focus on planning, zoning, and development.
