About the role

Join Colusa County as the next Community Development Director and lead, innovate, and build a stronger future for our communities. This role seeks a visionary leader to guide community and economic development initiatives while fostering responsible growth and exceptional public service.

As the County's new Community Development Director, you will transform the County's separate building and planning functions into a full-service, one-stop development services department, integrating building, planning, and environmental health. Success in this role requires applying common-sense solutions to complex issues.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and set performance expectations for all aspects of departmental responsibilities with a hands-on approach.
  • Transform separate building and planning functions into a unified, full-service development services department.
  • Oversee land use planning, development services, environmental health, economic development, process improvement, and organizational excellence.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to County leadership, community stakeholders, and development partners.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and exceptional public service within the department.
  • Ensure the public perceives the department as a partner in the development process, not a bureaucratic obstacle.
  • Work closely with elected officials, staff, residents, businesses, and regional partners to advance County priorities.
  • Provide viable options and expertise to help customers move projects forward, even when challenges arise.

Requirements

  • Ability to apply common-sense solutions to complex issues.
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, innovation, collaboration, and commitment to public service.
  • Experience in planning, building, environmental health, engineering, economic development, or public administration.
  • Leadership experience, with openness to both seasoned professionals and emerging leaders.
