Community Corrections Officer I - Community Supervision & Corrections Department
About the role
The role involves conducting interviews and evaluations of offenders, visiting jails, and preparing pre-sentence investigations. It also includes making appropriate modifications to violation reports, administering random drug and alcohol tests, maintaining records, supervising electronic monitored offenders, and participating in emergency management activities.
Responsibilities
- Conducts interviews and evaluations of offenders, visitations to jail, and pre-sentence investigations.
- Conducts office, telephone conversations, and field visits with probationers on a scheduled basis, including after work hours or on weekends.
- Researches, prepares, and evaluates violation reports and makes appropriate modifications to the reports.
- Administers random drug and alcohol testing through urinalysis and hair testing and makes appropriate referrals for assessment and treatment.
- Maintains and records documentation on each defendant’s case; prepares statistical data bi-monthly on all cases assigned.
- Serves as a liaison between offenders and the court, ensuring they receive court-directed counseling, screening, and referrals as needed.
- Maintains communication with other agencies involved in the offender’s supervision plan.
- Supervises electronic monitored offenders.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a field approved by the State.
- No previous job-related experience required.
- Computer and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with probationers, the public, other employees, and elected officials.
Qualifications
- Must become a certified corrections officer within one year of employment by attending training provided by the state.
Skills
- Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.

Pay
Starting salary range: $22.96 - $28.70 hourly based on qualifications.
