About the role

Implement and administer transition services for students with special needs who have socially graduated and continue accessing secondary services, typically ages 18–21. Provide oversight of transition services and IEP compliance for high school students with special needs. Requirements are governed by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Responsibilities

• Provide case management for 18–21-year-old students with special needs and monitor progress toward post-secondary goals and objectives.
• Serve as liaison among adult service providers, students, families, and special-education staff.
• Provide consultation services for students, families, and special-education staff as needed.
• Collaborate with community agencies and adult service providers to deliver services and support for students and families.
• Attend all senior IEP meetings at Harrison High School and Sierra High School to assist in developing students’ post-secondary plans.
• Assist and/or train secondary special-education staff in IDEA compliance and transition best practices.
• Support the Director, Assistant Director, and/or Coordinator of Special Programs with departmental assignments.
• Participate on the Pikes Peak Interagency Transition Team to gather resources and share information with secondary special-education staff; represent District 2 in community activities related to students with disabilities.
• Facilitate and participate in the STEPSS (State Toolkit for Examining Post School Success) model.
• Engage in continuing education and professional-growth activities related to transition.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or administrator.

Requirements

• Valid Colorado License issued by the Colorado Department of Education with Special Education Teacher endorsement or BCBA endorsement (currently issued as an Adjunct Instructor Authorization). The license must be obtained within 30 days of the start date.
• Endorsement levels must align with the age range served, per ECEA Rule 3.04.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Special experience and training as determined by content area.
• Successful criminal background check and District fingerprinting.

• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders in the school environment.
• Knowledge of classroom management and conflict resolution.
• Experience in Professional Learning Communities.
• Ability to walk or stand for long periods; routinely lift and carry up to 30 pounds; occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
