Responsibilities
- Installation of video and data cable with Cat 5E, Cat 6 as well as fiber cable.
- Terminating and testing of horizontal copper (Cat 5, Cat 6).
- Termination of fiber.
- Termination of riser cable.
- Installation of patch panels.
- Label and test horizontal cable.
- Installation of backbone and riser cable (copper & fiber).
- Installation of interior conduit, Panduit and Wiremold.
- Read and understand plans and specifications.
- Installation of plywood and racks.
- Installation of cable trays in TC, MDF, IDF.
- Mentor apprentices.
- Assist in OSP (outside plant) installations.
- Pulling cable 100 pair or smaller unassisted.
- Installing prefab assembly unassisted.
- To assist in Site Grounding.
- To assist in Pulling Low Voltage Cable.
- To assist in pulling all size of Telecom Cables.
- To participate in Job site cleanup.
- To maintain clean work area.
- To install Wiremold, Sleeves, Panduit and ENT.
- To install pull and junction boxes up to 24” x 24%.
- To assist with Tugger setup and use for large wire and long pulls (Pulley Wheels, Capstans wheel, Chains, etc.).
- To operate a Tugger requires certification.
- To assist with calculating wire load and conduit sizing layout.
- To assist with Exterior underground layout.
- To assist with interior overhead and under floor raceways layouts for telecom.
- To assist with grounding grid under slab.
- To assist with grounding ring exterior.
- To assist with splicing crimp tools and installation of Mechanical Lugs.
- To assist with building grounding.
- To assist with grounding service entry equip.
- To assist with bonding all metallic portions.
- To assist with structural cold water grounding.
- To perform an Operational Risk Management Briefing for any task mastered to date.
- To generate or add to an Activity Hazard Analysis for any task mastered.
- To contribute to the Risk Register for any defined feature of work mastered.
- To troubleshoot and fix Cat 5, 5E and 6 cable problems.
- To terminate various manufacturers of copper termination blocks.
- To know all fiber termination connectors.
- To know all makes of fiber optics cable.
Qualifications
- 4+ years prior experience in commercial communications industry with a high school diploma or GED or 3+ years of experience with an Associate degree.
- Must have a valid driver's license to be able to operate equipment (for which you will be trained).
- Prior experience in communications work including room build-out, Cat6, Cat6A and fiber optic termination, interpret and maintain drawing and as-builts.
- Familiarity with: BlueBeam Fluke Versiv MS Office Word and Excel.
- The candidate should have knowledge of BICSI guidelines for proper install and termination procedures.
- This position is subject to an additional customer drug screening and background check.
