Communications Specialist
Job Summary
This intermediate level position, under moderate supervision and guidance, is progressively more responsible for assisting in the drafting, coordinating and executing of both external and internal communication plans. Cultivates internal business and department head relationships and is mentored by upper level Communications experts in the development and management of external vendor relationships. Assists assigned internal partners with communication for targeted audiences.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary communications liaison for assigned municipal franchise contracts, ensuring communication collateral, public outreach materials, and other contractual deliverables are met effectively and on schedule.
- Under supervision, engages and assists assigned internal partners (business and department heads) with targeted communications to both internal and external audiences.
- Affords assistance to company personnel in preparing speeches, letters and articles which are to be made public.
- Collaborates with Operations, Government Affairs, Community Relations, and other cross-functional teams to develop messaging that supports business objectives, operational priorities, and contractual commitments.
- Maintains communication activities and provides reporting, documentation, and performance metrics to support communication objectives and franchise contract requirements.
- Responds to field communicators to assist with the strategy implementation, delivery of tools and messaging.
- May coordinate and assist in the administration and planning of large company events.
- Affords assistance in creating and supporting internal communications regarding weather related disaster or crisis preparedness and aftermath.
- Maintains and distributes company and industry daily news throughout the company via intranet.
- Organizes and monitors media from all outlets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Communication, Journalism or Public Relations, or in lieu of degree
- High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience. 2 years previous experience in a communications department or agency (in addition to education requirement).
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in communications, community outreach, stakeholder engagement, or public education; Proven project management experience with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines; Experience developing communication materials and campaigns for diverse audiences; Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Suite, and related tools; Strong organizational, collaboration, and communication skills.

PAY
The expected base pay range for this office/on-site position is $85,000 - $95,000. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
