About the role

This position involves performing a variety of duties in the operation of emergency services systems and communication devices to handle calls for emergency and non-emergency law enforcement and other services. It is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, route, relay and dispatch calls for emergency and non-emergency law enforcement and other services.
  • Assimilate quickly into the organizational climate and establish critical relationships to ensure success and contribution to the organization.
  • Demonstrate commitment to public service and value exceptional customer service.
  • Show outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to take ownership of problems to find solutions; share resources, information, and knowledge; and encourage commitment to the County's mission and organizational goals.
  • Be collaborative, hard-working, and detail-oriented while seeing the big picture.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time call center experience or clerical experience to include customer service, routing calls, public interaction, or emergency services.
  • Six months of dispatching experience.
  • Three months as a Communications Call Taker in a public safety environment.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Qualifications

  • Certification on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) within four months of appointment and must be maintained thereafter for continued employment.
  • FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, 800 certification within four months of appointment.
  • Certifications in Emergency Medical Dispatch (MPDS), Emergency Fire Dispatch (FPDS), Emergency Police Dispatch (PPDS) through the International Academy of Emergency Dispatching, and CPR certification at Healthcare provider level within four months of appointment; these certifications require the completion of continuing education units plus recertification every two years for continued employment.

Benefits

Top candidates must pass a background investigation which includes: submission of a complete set of fingerprints, completion and submission of a personal history statement, passing a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) examination, and passing an audio/hearing test.

Schedule

Rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays are required.
