Position Description

The Communications Specialist supports STO Building Group's Corporate Marketing and Communications team with writing, editing, and public relations activities. Their work will strengthen STOBG's communications and reputation by promoting the firm's projects, staff, and brand. This role assists in developing clear, compelling staff content, coordinating media and PR efforts, and supporting day-to-day marketing initiatives. This role requires a knack for storytelling and an interest in promoting internal engagement and employee experience initiatives. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding writer with a strong attention to detail, a stellar work ethic, and an interest in the construction and built environment.

Responsibilities

Internal Communications

  • Draft, edit, proofread, and publish content for STOBG's internal and external communications channels.
  • Generate ideas and produce content for our staff intranet, email, and other internal communications channels.

External Communications

  • Assist with press releases, media outreach, and PR coordination.
  • Assist in managing internal editorial calendar, ongoing campaigns, and other communications initiatives.
  • Support content development for STOBG's external channels, including social media, website content, and thought leadership posts.
  • Set up meetings, agendas, and action items related to the coordination with our external PR vendor and our PR software platform as needed.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, English, journalism, or marketing
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a marketing communications, public relations or journalism-driven role (public relations or communications internship experience preferred)
  • Professional writing samples required

Qualifications & Skills

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills
  • Ability to effectively balance multiple priorities
  • Fundamental understanding of the media landscape (traditional, social)
  • Excellent interviewing, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a group with 'team spirit' as well as independently motivated
  • Preferred: familiarity with photography and video
