Communications Specialist

About the role

The Communications Specialist position at the City of Edinburg is responsible for managing the city's public information and digital presence. Key responsibilities include:

• Creating, posting, and monitoring engaging content across multiple social media platforms.
• Visiting city project sites, taking photos, and drafting press releases.
• Fielding media and public inquiries.
• Managing the department phone line.
• Conducting research to develop speeches and talking points for leadership.

Requirements

Qualifications for the Communications Specialist position include:

• A minimum of an associate's degree in Mass Communication or a related field.
• Two (2) years of experience in a related field.
• A current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• An attention to detail.
• Dependability.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Communications Specialist position, candidates must:

• Have a minimum of an associate's degree in Mass Communication or a related field.
• Have two (2) years of experience in a related field.
• Hold a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
• Show excellent oral and written communication skills.

Skills

• Strong writing skills.
• Ability to compose written material and disseminate public relations information for release to the media.
• Customer service and public relations skills.
• Knowledge of English language usage and the terminology used by various news media.
• Experience in communications/marketing field.
• Experience in public relations, video, and phone camera.
• Experience in social media tools.
