Job Summary

This position receives emergency and non-emergency calls for services and dispatches appropriate personnel in response. Operates emergency alert system, monitors security cameras and handles phone calls and walk in traffic for the University Police Department.

Major Duties

  • Receives requests for assistance or information by telephone and in person; provides and collects information; refers to appropriate personnel; dispatches Police Officers and other appropriate personnel.
  • Dispatches officers for a variety of situations, including fire alarms, building alarms, elevator alarms, suspicious activity reports, and stranded motorists.
  • Maintains radio contact with Police Officers in the field.
  • Maintains log of calls.
  • Provides information to Police Officers via police radio; utilizes OLETS system to acquire vehicle, person and item information and criminal histories as appropriate.
  • Contacts external public safety agencies for back-up and assistance as needed.
  • Initiates Emergency Alert System when necessary
  • Monitors cameras and GuardianSentral system
  • Remains informed of weather conditions and forecasts; activates campus emergency broadcast system as appropriate.
  • Issues temporary parking permits.
  • Issues reports for lost ID’s and parking permits.
  • Performs related duties.

Required Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the public safety dispatch principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of police radio operation principles.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in the provision of customer services.
  • Ability to multitask in high pressure situations
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk table or while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping.
  • The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work requires sitting for long periods of time
  • The work is typically performed in an office.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Must have OLETS certification or be able to complete OLETS certification within the first 6 months of service. (Training provided)
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance.

Annual Salary

$25,536.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
