Location

Our campuses are located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144 and 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

About the Role

This position is responsible for receiving emergency, non-emergency, and administrative calls, dispatching appropriate emergency responders, and performing inquiries into local, state, and national databases to support law enforcement. The role also serves as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

Responsibilities

  • Receives emergency and non-emergency requests for public safety and non-public safety services.
  • Provides dispatch services for incidents and requests for public safety assistance via two-way radio and/or telephone.
  • Requests additional resources (fire, emergency medical services, law enforcement, tow trucks, other University personnel or services) as needed.
  • Monitors fire alarm systems, video camera systems, and incoming information/messages from government, private sector, and non-profit sources.
  • Broadcasts alerts to the Department of Public Safety/University Police (DPS/UP) and the campus community.
  • Receives training and maintains certifications in CPR, AED, first aid procedures, Georgia Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (GCIC/NCIC), Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST), National Incident Management System (NIMS), and Incident Command System (ICS).

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment, certification as a Communications Officer through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council, in accordance with Georgia Code 35-8-23 and Chapter 464-14 of the Rules of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.
  • On-the-job training provided.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field.
  • Previous experience working in a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).

Skills

  • Able to work during inclement weather, 12-hour shifts, partial shifts, and periodic on-call.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Able to maintain composure when talking to callers in crisis or emergency situations.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Knowledge of NIMS and ICS systems, CPR, AED, and first aid procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, video management software, computer-aided dispatch software, and web-based applications).
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-up skills, customer service skills, and phone/email etiquette.

Background Check

This position requires an enhanced background check, including a 9-panel lab drug test, psychological evaluation, and physical. Per the University System of Georgia policy, all final candidates must consent to a criminal background investigation. Final candidates may be asked to disclose criminal record history during the initial screening process. Applicants for positions of trust with disqualifying criminal history will be immediately disqualified from employment eligibility.
