About the role
The Communications Officer is a critical role in the delivery of public safety services, serving as the initial point of contact for those in need of assistance.
Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service
- Enter call information into the computer using a CAD System and update information in a timely manner
- Communicate with callers to obtain accurate and essential information
- Relay information to appropriate agencies and responders
- Process multiple calls simultaneously
- Assist other employees as needed
- Attend mandatory trainings and meetings
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year or more experience in the public safety field
- CPR/AED Certification
- Ability to type at least 35 words per minute NET
- Valid driver's license
Qualifications
- Basic experience in computer terminal operation in a Microsoft Windows environment
- Knowledge of the Spokane regional service area, including streets and landmarks
- Experience operating a TDD/TTY for hearing/speech impaired callers
- Ability to respond to text to 911 applications and operate other computer programs as necessary
- Ability to obtain Telecommunicator 1 and 2 Certifications
