About the role

The Communications Manager serves as an embedded communications resource for the Neurosciences Institute, Department of Neurology, and Department of Neurosurgery. This role supports the Neurosciences Institute, Department of Neurology, and Department of Neurosurgery by executing integrated communication plans.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of communications plans that align with enterprise priorities and enhance faculty and staff engagement.
  • Work closely with the Clinical Department and Institute leadership team to ensure effective communication.
  • Draft clear, persuasive, and engaging announcements, editorial pieces, internal newsletters, and leadership messages.
  • Maintain editorial consistency, uphold tone and voice standards, and ensure all written communications reflect the institution's values and strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, creative teams, and leadership to shape narratives that inspire action and foster a sense of shared purpose across the organization.
  • Close, coordinated collaboration across the broader Mass General Brigham Marketing & Communications ecosystem, including digital, content, brand, creative, media relations, editorial planning, and change management teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive communications experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience within a healthcare environment, preferably an academic medical center or large health system.
  • Proven expertise in internal engagement, change management, and storytelling.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and deliver under tight deadlines in a matrixed organization.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Content Creation and Management: Develop and manage content for various communication channels, including email, newsletters, town halls, and intranet content.
  • Internal Communications Excellence: Champion internal communications as a strategic enabler of engagement, operational clarity, and cultural alignment.
  • Department and Institute Storytelling: Identify and elevate stories that showcase clinical excellence, groundbreaking research, educational innovation, and faculty achievements.
  • Executive and System Leadership Engagement: Translate system priorities into effective departmental communications. Communicate institutional messages with clarity and credibility.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate closely with central Marketing & Communications teams to ensure cohesive messaging, reduce duplication, and maximize impact.
  • Participate in cross-enterprise campaigns and initiatives.
  • Measurement and Continuous Improvement: Use data and stakeholder feedback to refine strategy and drive iterative improvements.
