HGL is seeking a Communications and Administrative Intern I for a part-time, in-office position in Overland Park, KS. The internship runs from August 2026 to November 2026 with no overnight travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative Support Tasks
    • Support general office tasks, such as answering the phone, tracking office supplies, processing daily mail and packages.
    • Assist with physical and digital filing systems.
    • Maintain clean, tidy, and orderly office and field storage areas.
    • Utilize approved digital and AI-assisted tools to support technical documentation, data analysis, and workflow efficiency.
  • Marketing and Communications Tasks
    • Support the Marketing and Communications Team in evaluating marketing strategy by following objectives, organizing promotional presentations, and updating calendars.
    • Organize marketing materials and purchase promotional items for HGL conference attendance.
    • Work on tight deadlines with the Communications Team to support social media editing, planning, and posting.
    • Contribute to writing and editing accurate social media content that adheres to HGL’s style guide and Communications policy.
    • Keep up to date with pertinent editing and social media creation and monitoring tools.
    • Perform other support duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Actively working toward or seeking a degree in Communications or Marketing.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and other MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team- and results-oriented environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and be detail-oriented.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new technologies and digital tools to improve project delivery and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Marketing skills, knowledge of the environmental/scientific industry, and ability to interface with clients and management are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of traditional and digital marketing, content marketing, and social media marketing.
  • Strong academic background with focus on organization, administrative tasks, and communication principles.
  • Experience editing and using social media creation and monitoring tools, including Canva, Adobe Suite, etc.
  • Web design and familiarity with SquareSpace is a plus.
  • Experience using generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to improve technical writing, data analysis, research, visualization, or task delivery efficiency.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to lift, move, or relocate items up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged sitting up to 70% of the time.
  • Prolonged standing up to 70% of the time.
  • Repetitive hand motions (typing, tool use, etc.).
  • Ability to see details at a close range.
  • Viewing computer screen for extended periods.
  • Driving a company or personal vehicle.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Managing competing deadlines and shifting priorities.

Work environment: Office setting.

Schedule

This internship supports 15 hours per week within a 5-day workweek, with core hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. The duration is August 2026 through November 2026.

Pay

The pay rate for this position is $20.00/hour.
