Communication Studies Instructor Pool-Part-Time

Cypress College is accepting applications for Part-time Communication Studies Instructor positions. This recruitment will create a pool of qualified applicants to fill part-time assignments on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction in Communication Studies courses, including lecture and lab components.
• Develop and implement effective teaching techniques and assessment methods to engage diverse learners.
• Promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery.
• Support and mentor historically and socially minoritized/marginalized student communities.
• Contribute to an inclusive, equity-minded learning environment.

Requirements

• Master’s in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication; OR
• Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English; OR
• Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area; OR
• Equivalent qualifications as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

All degrees must be from accredited postsecondary institutions and verifiable on a legible transcript. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for equivalency. Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Ability to relate equity-minded practices to classroom instruction.
• Recent lower division or community college teaching experience.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Pay

• Lecture unit rate: $1,572.67 – $1,725.85
• Lab parity unit rate: $1,572.67 – $1,725.85
• Lab unit rate: $1,258.16 – $1,380.60

Salary placement is based on education and experience, ranging from Column 1 to Column 3 on the adjunct salary schedule.
