About the role

The Communications Administrator contributes to and implements the Department of Mechanical Engineering’s multi-channel communications strategy, including ongoing maintenance of digital communication channels. This role carries significant responsibility for content creation, social media management, internal and external e-newsletter production, internal communications, and brand consistency, working with limited supervision from the Communications Manager.

The position collaborates with the Web Manager and Senior Producer/Creative Lead to ensure timely and accurate delivery of digital content and contributes to the coordinated work of the Digital Strategy group.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement multi-channel communications strategies for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Create, edit, and manage content for digital communication channels, including social media, e-newsletters, and internal communications.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all platforms and communications.
  • Collaborate with the Web Manager and Senior Producer/Creative Lead to deliver digital content.
  • Utilize AI-based workflows for content creation, platform engagement, and work process management with appropriate safeguards and transparency.
  • Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all communications and projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in communications, marketing, or a closely related role.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and channels.
  • Experience with social media content creation, scheduling tools, and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp or Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Demonstrated design skills and proficiency with editing and design tools like Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva.
  • Experience with web content management systems like WordPress or Drupal.
  • Interest in understanding and implementing AI-based workflows for content creation and engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an academic or research environment with a focus on engineering and technology.
  • Experience with HTML and CSS.
  • Photography or video production experience.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards for digital content (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).
  • Experience with SEO best practices.
