Commodity Manager - Command, Control, Communications

About the role

The Commodity Manager serves as the strategic lead for an assigned commodity portfolio. This role is responsible for driving category growth and development by translating supplier capabilities and market trends into actionable strategies, customer-focused solutions, and sales enablement tools. The position supports business units by enabling account managers and collaborating with various internal teams to enhance market positioning and pipeline development.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement commodity growth strategies aligned with organizational and customer priorities.
• Maintain category business plans, strategic roadmaps, and market assessments.
• Act as the internal commodity expert for product, supplier, market, and competitive intelligence.
• Translate market and supplier data into practical customer solutions and sales tools.
• Support pursuits, proposals, and customer engagements as the category specialist.
• Collaborate with Sales and Business Development to identify opportunities and improve positioning.
• Partner with Vendor Management on supplier capabilities and category investments.
• Provide category expertise during supplier evaluations and strategic discussions.
• Conduct commodity mapping to identify market gaps and emerging trends.
• Analyze category performance, pricing, margins, and demand signals to recommend improvements.
• Develop enablement materials including playbooks, briefs, and training content.
• Coordinate with Marketing on campaigns, events, and customer collateral.
• Work with Operations on contract and delivery considerations related to the category.
• Support growth initiatives across programs, contract vehicles, and customer segments.
• Travel as required for meetings, events, and planning sessions.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in category management, supplier relations, defense, or related supply chain roles.
• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work/military experience.
• Ability to translate complex supplier and market data into growth strategies and solutions.
• Understanding of U.S. Government contracting and federal procurement preferred.
• Strong analytical skills for evaluating category and market performance.
• Effective communication and presentation abilities.
• Collaborative mindset working across multiple internal teams.
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Proficient with CRM and business tools including Salesforce and Microsoft Office.
• Willingness to travel.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status required.
