Commissioning Technician - Henderson Building Solutions

About the role

Henderson Building Solutions is seeking a Commissioning Technician (TAB focus) to support testing, adjusting, and balancing of HVAC systems, based out of our Lenexa, Kansas office. The Commissioning Technician is responsible for executing building commissioning and retro-commissioning tasks on projects to include field observation and testing, report generation and project planning.

Responsibilities

• Create owner project requirements, construction plans and specifications
• Review drawings and maintain a record of comments
• Generate checklists and tests for equipment
• Make site visits to complete pre-functional test checklists
• Generate site observation and issues reports
• Review equipment submittals and maintain a record of comments
• Perform testing, adjusting and balancing tasks, which includes adjusting air and hydronic systems
• Make site visits to complete functional performance tests
• Generate site observation and issues reports
• Generate final reports
• Make site visits to troubleshoot issues
• Assess equipment operation and conditions
• Generate reports summarizing visits, equipment conditions and recommendations
• Develop and maintain client relationships
• Setups projects and folders
• Evaluate budgets to determine the proper allocation of resources and time for each job

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of engineering required, or 4+ years of experience without a relevant degree. Common examples include Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, or Architectural Engineering
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
• Commissioning certification preferred (NEBB TAB Tech or Cx Tech)
• Previous commissioning or testing/balancing experience preferred
• Ability to reliably and predictably carry out the functions of this job
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Able to work with some degree of independence but may require frequent supervision and mentoring
• Understand drawings and specifications and how they translate into a building
• Understand mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, institutional and light industrial facilities as they relate to commissioning
• Basic knowledge of Automation and controls systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, fire alarm/life safety systems, lighting and lighting controls, and test and balance
• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit and Bluebeam
• Ability to read and understand blueprints
• Valid driver’s license

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Significant travel required – approximately 50% of time
• Must be flexible and able to travel with little notice
• Able to work varying shift times depending on the project, i.e. night or weekends
• Able to be on your feet all day and climb ladders
