About the role
The Commissioning Manager provides expert on-site technical leadership and hands-on execution for the commissioning of mission-critical data center facilities. This role leads the field execution of all levels of commissioning (L0–L6), ensuring safe, high-quality, and timely delivery of MEP systems through rigorous testing, verification, and handover. Reporting to the Director of Commissioning, the Commissioning Manager serves as the primary on-site technical authority, bridging strategic direction and day-to-day execution while mentoring commissioning engineers, resolving complex technical issues, and coordinating with contractors, vendors, and clients. This role requires weekly travel to job sites and is based in Pampa, TX. We pay for travel expenses.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the on-site technical authority and provide expert leadership for the full execution of all levels of commissioning (L0–L6) for MEP systems in mission-critical data centers.
- Translate the Director's high-level Commissioning Plan into detailed site-specific execution plans, test scripts, procedures, and functional performance tests.
- Lead day-to-day commissioning activities, including construction observations, system testing, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), startup, energization, and final handover.
- Own the site-level commissioning schedule, track prerequisites and milestones, and drive first-pass test success while maintaining alignment with overall project timelines.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues during commissioning and startup phases and drive timely resolution.
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior Commissioning Engineers and field staff on testing methodology, documentation, troubleshooting, and safe work practices.
- Act as the primary technical liaison with contractors, vendors, construction managers, and clients to coordinate activities, witness testing, and resolve conflicts.
- Ensure all commissioning work complies with Meade standards, project specifications, industry codes (NEC, ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE), and safety requirements.
- Maintain commissioning logs, status reports, and issue resolution documentation.
- Review and approve test plans, daily field reports, submittals, commissioning documentation, deficiency logs, punch lists, and turnover packages to ensure accuracy, compliance, and completeness.
- Manage site-level resources and expenditures responsibly within the allocated budget and provide progress reports and issue escalations to the Project Manager.
- Champion a strong safety culture and lead by example during testing and energized work.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement of commissioning processes, scripts, and standards across projects.
Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive experience in building systems commissioning, with demonstrated leadership across L0-L6 commissioning on data center or mission-critical facilities.
- 3+ years of hands-on leadership experience leading commissioning activities and mentoring field teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or related discipline preferred; equivalent industry or military experience considered.
- Deep technical knowledge of MEP systems, including HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, boilers, UPS, generators, medium-voltage electrical systems, BMS, and control sequences.
- Thorough working knowledge of industry codes and standards (NEC, ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE, etc.).
- Strong troubleshooting, functional performance, and system integration skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, and commissioning management software such as CxAlloy is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), CxA, or equivalent certification.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Direct experience on hyperscale data center or large technology client projects.
- Experience with multiple construction delivery methods.
- Background in developing or improving commissioning processes and training junior team members.

Pay
The pay range for this position varies by location and is determined based on skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, geographic location, and business needs. The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Virginia: $146,200–$194,500
- Washington: $153,300–$203,800
