Commissioning Field Technician II

About the role

The Commissioning Field Technician II is an entry-level role that builds upon foundational commissioning knowledge while introducing more independent troubleshooting, testing, and reporting responsibilities. This role provides technical support in the inspection, validation, and functional testing of electrical, mechanical, and control systems. The Commissioning Field Technician II will develop a deeper understanding of commissioning procedures, engage with vendors and project teams, and take ownership of specific testing tasks under immediate supervision. Expected to demonstrate increasing autonomy, problem-solving skills, and initiative in executing commissioning tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site inspection, validation, testing, and verification of electrical and mechanical equipment (50%)
  • Participate in factory witness testing
  • Observe startup activities
  • Use technical equipment to perform testing
  • Perform functional testing of equipment and electrical, mechanical, and controls systems
  • Troubleshoot system components
• Develop testing plans and procedures (20%)
  • Assist in the development of commissioning plans
  • Prepare pre-functional checklists
  • Prepare functional performance test scripts
• Review construction-related design documents, drawings, and specifications (15%)
  • Review shop drawings and submittals
  • Review sequence of operations
  • Assist in commissioning-focused design reviews
• Reporting (10%)
  • Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in preparation and contribute to the final commissioning report
  • Manage personal hours using company tools
• Leverage technology, digital tools, and AI-enabled efficiency (5%)
  • Use AI-enabled and digital tools to enhance efficiency and reduce manual effort
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and demonstrate a continuous learning mindset
  • Adapt to emerging technologies and evolving digital workflows
• Complete assigned tasks and deliverables on time and on budget
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and controls system principles
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and strong organizational skills for file management
• Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and optimize operational processes
• Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication, self-motivation, and resourcefulness
• Ability to follow company and site safety requirements
• Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written (technical and non-technical information)
• Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with supervision
• Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines
• Ability to achieve certification for NFPA 70E and/or OSHA training as required
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or related discipline, OR
• A minimum of two years’ experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation, and troubleshooting of mechanical, controls, and/or electrical infrastructure

• Occasionally positioning self under or over equipment

Travel

• Up to 75% domestic travel; relocation may be considered for long-term project needs
• Must be located near a major airport
• Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to rent vehicles
• Effective May 7, 2025, a valid REAL ID (or acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for domestic air travel
• Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination
• Potential for international assignments

Certifications

• Must be able to obtain NFPA 70E / OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certifications as required

Pay

The pay range for this role is $69,000 - $92,000 USD per year.
