About the role

Wunderlich-Malec Services (WM) is a 100% employee-owned ESOP and one of the largest and most well-established engineering companies in the United States. The Commissioning Engineer position is available in our Biddeford, ME office.

Responsibilities

  • Review specification and engineering drawings to understand the purpose and functionality of substation
  • Schedule the installation and commissioning with subcontractors and customers
  • Provide safety analysis and proper equipment isolation procedure
  • Develop a day-to-day outage plan for customer
  • Develop and sign-off detail test procedure for each piece of equipment
  • Maintain oversight of construction and address technical questions as needed
  • Directly witness or perform critical tests such as DC Functional Trip Testing prior to energization and in-service
  • Work extended hours/days in a row at a particular job site near project completion
  • Support several capital projects occurring simultaneously by rotating among the jobs
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers
  • Support the development of estimates for client proposals and further business development
  • Understand AC and DC elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, and one-line drawings for system operation
  • Develop standard testing documentation, training procedures, and maintain all project documentation including certifications and calibration records

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical or engineering technology) is preferred. Associate Degree is acceptable provided candidate has proven experience in the field.
  • Experience: 3+ years with capabilities in three-phase power systems, protection and control schemes, equipment testing, and electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Skills: Proven customer service, sales ability, and ability to handle difficult situations with customers and gain satisfaction. Ability to obtain NICET certification or equivalent.

Qualifications

  • Diverse skill set with the ability to work independently
  • Act as technical lead on projects and guide lower level engineers/technicians

Skills

  • Understanding of AC and DC elementary diagrams, wiring diagrams, and one-line drawings
  • Experience in testing, troubleshooting, evaluating, and servicing electrical distribution and control systems
  • Experience utilizing relay secondary injection test sets
  • Experience with PQ measurements
  • Experience leading crews to test and commission new and modified substations
  • Experience rotating machinery, including generators and excitation systems
  • Experience with SCADA, RTU, and DFR systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD
