Commissioning Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end Commissioning processes and delivery of construction projects to satisfy company requirements and verify smooth transition to facility operations teams.
  • Manage site specific L1 through L5 commissioning processes for all new or expansion projects.
  • Lead multiple disciplines for a project-specific commissioning plan, including reviewing and verifying systems design, installation, functional performance, and reliability.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with architects, engineers, trade partners, and facility operations teams to streamline project delivery and to ensure fully compliant project.
  • Collaborate with General Contractor (GC), Commissioning Agent and internal team members to create, manage iterations, and integrate Start-up and Commissioning schedules into overall project schedule.
  • Analyze project schedules and provide monthly reporting to identify areas of potential delays, critical path analysis, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Develop risk assessment models and identify key risk factors that may impact project budgets and schedules.
  • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other members of the project team to monitor project performance against schedule targets and identify areas where performance may have opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage RFP processes for all commissioning projects. (RFP creation through award)
  • Manage documentation and record keeping procedures of all equipment and materials related to construction projects. Inclusive of contributing to and population of equipment database.
  • Oversee development and population of Closeout documentation associated with projects.
  • Facilitate weekly meetings to review any all punch-list or open items with vendors, trade partners and commissioning agents through resolution.
  • Establish and manage punch list prevention plan and related Commissioning deficiencies with project team.
  • Participate and/or facilitate Commissioning related on-boarding of new trade partners, vendors, and consultants.
  • Enforce company practices within the project commissioning team, including subcontractors and equipment vendors, ensuring commitment to, safety, and performance on site.
  • Review design documents and specifications to ensure company standards and requirements are met.
  • Monitor construction of Electrical / Mechanical / FA / FP / Controls subcontractors for schedule management and conformance to contract documents.
  • Participate in design and construction reviews of project documents and provide technical input to help determine most cost effective and schedule efficient method of construction.
  • Review project submittals including all start up and commissioning procedures supplied by vendors and consultants. (OFCI equipment/CFCI equipment/SOO/etc.)
  • Perform other miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in leading commissioning in mission critical facilities.
  • Ability to interpret contract documents, owner project requirements, drawings, specifications, system schematics, sequence of operations, MEP scopes of work and project schedule.
  • Experience developing, implementing and overseeing commissioning plans, scripts and procedures.
  • Knowledge of NETA guidelines and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of mission critical construction technology, equipment, materials, methods, etc.
  • Knowledge and skills in a wide variety of applications including web based and project management systems.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of MEP systems and construction processes across all trades, means and methods, and materials their characteristics, installation procedures and tolerances.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems, including Environmental controls and Electrical Power Management Systems.
  • Experience with access controls and CCTV systems.
  • Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders, and negotiate work areas under construction.
  • Robust performance management, ensuring tasks are completed timely and efficiently.
  • Excellent time management, ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication skills, effectively interact with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Experience in construction cost forecasting, accrual reporting, pay applications, and construction scheduling and planning.
  • Experience using scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6, DCMA 14, or similar scheduling assessment tools.
  • Deep understanding of project management principles and best practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
