About the role

The District Court Commissioners are judicial officers responsible for reviewing applications for Statement of Charges by the public and police for the filing of criminal charges in the District Court. They also issue Criminal Summons or Arrest Warrants based on probable cause findings.

Responsibilities

  • Determine probable cause for charges on police on-view arrests of persons and determine pre-trial release for those arrested persons.
  • Accept Bail Bond moneys and other forms of surety to secure the release of an incarcerated individual.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for the public and those with business with the court system, especially when the Circuit and District Courts are closed.
  • Consider civil petitions for interim Peace Orders and Protective Orders when the Circuit and District Courts are closed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Reside in the county or a contiguous county where employed (as defined by the contiguous county listing).
  • Baltimore City residents are only eligible for consideration with Baltimore City District Court.
  • CPR certified and must renew certification every 24 months.
  • Maintain NCIC CN5 certification to conduct Criminal Record Checks and must renew certification every 24 months.
  • Flexible to work shift work and at various locations, available 24/7 and essential personnel.
  • Assigned to day, evening, night, weekend, and/or holiday shifts.

  • Must have demonstrated experience using a personal computer and typing efficiently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to make decisions based on criteria set forth in the Law and Administrative regulations.

$68,227 annually.

Schedule

Shift Differential: $3.00/hr. for hours worked between 5:00pm-7:00am.
