About the role

The Maryland Judiciary seeks District Court Commissioners to review Applications for Statement of Charges and issue warrants or criminal summonses. They also handle pre-trial release, accept bail bond payments, and consider civil petitions for interim orders.

Responsibilities

  • Determine probable cause for charges on police on-view arrests
  • Determine pre-trial release for arrested persons
  • Accept Bail Bond moneys and other forms of surety to secure release
  • Serve as first point of contact for the public and those with court business
  • Conduct criminal record checks as needed
  • Work flexible shifts including day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday
  • Be available 24/7 and essential personnel

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Reside in the county or a contiguous county where employed
  • CPR certified and NCIC CN5 certification
  • Flexible to work shift work and at various locations

Qualifications

  • Bound by the Code of Ethics for Judicial Appointees
  • Cannot be politically slanted, run for office, or endorse a candidate
  • Must have demonstrated experience using a personal computer and typing efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor
  • Ability to make decisions based on criteria set forth in the Law and Administrative regulations
