About the role

The Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile is collaborating with the Rouxbe Cooking School to provide culinary associates with online training opportunities to enhance their careers. Rouxbe's self-paced platform offers a variety of lessons that can be applied directly to job roles.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food.
  • Wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients.
  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist.
  • Prepare cold foods.
  • Operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers.
  • Test foods to ensure they have been cooked sufficiently.
  • Maintain food quality during preparation.
  • Set-up and break down work stations.
  • Serve food in proper portions onto appropriate receptacles.
  • Wash and disinfect kitchen areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
  • Monitor and ensure the correct temperature of appliances and food.
  • Follow all company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Report maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to managers.
  • Complete required safety training and certifications.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
  • Protect company assets.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with others.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues.
  • Support team efforts to achieve common goals.
  • Respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
  • Achieve quality expectations and standards.
  • Stand, sit, or walk for extended periods or entire shifts.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance.

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

Related Work Experience: At least 1 year of relevant work experience.

Supervisory Experience: No supervisory experience required.

Licenses or Certifications: None required.
