Commercial Underwriter II

JOB SUMMARY

Underwrites commercial loans to support revenue growth and asset quality of the commercial lending line of business. Participates in new client relationship development, monitors existing client relationships, manages credit risk, and promotes bank policies and strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Analyze financial information on existing and potential customers to assess financial condition and ability to repay loans.
• Investigate credit and financial information using reporting services, credit bureaus, and trade references.
• Assess the financial health and industry of the customer's business.
• Evaluate and approve customer loan applications, prepare and present financial information, and analyze trends and ratios.
• Prepare and present analytical credit memoranda, identify risks, and evaluate collateral.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of credit culture and loan policies, and advise on risk appetite and policy adherence.
• Manage loan portfolios, ensure compliance with loan documents, and monitor borrower compliance.
• Proactively identify weaknesses in loans to minimize exposure, reduce risk, and mitigate delinquency and loss.
• Stay current on market and industry issues, trends, regulatory pronouncements, and analytical techniques.
• Exercise time management and organizational skills.
• Aid other underwriters to cover overflow.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• A Bachelor’s Degree (BS or BA) in finance, accounting, or business preferred.
• Minimum of seven years of relevant experience with commercial credit analysis, commercial lending, loan structuring, finance, underwriting, and portfolio management.
• Competence may be demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, and/or education.
• Formal commercial credit training preferred.
