Commercial Surety Underwriter

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal Commercial Surety business while maintaining a profitable portfolio.
• Manage and grow an assigned book of business through strong agency and broker relationships.
• Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within your territory.
• Evaluate financial statements, credit profiles, indemnity structures, and overall risk exposure.
• Determine appropriate pricing, terms, and underwriting structures for new and existing accounts.
• Travel within your assigned territory to meet with agency partners and strengthen relationships.
• Collaborate with internal underwriting, claims, legal, and operations teams to provide exceptional service.
• Monitor portfolio performance and implement strategies to improve profitability and retention.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Commercial Surety underwriting experience.
• Strong understanding of Commercial Surety products and underwriting principles.
• Demonstrated experience managing an existing book of business.
• Proven ability to generate new business and cultivate long-term agency relationships.
• Experience analyzing financial statements and evaluating commercial credit risk.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
