About the Role

Guidehouse's Commercial Strategy team within our Energy Providers practice is looking for an Associate Director to support the leadership of electric and gas utilities as they solve their highest priority challenges. This role focuses on new commercial and operating models to navigate the changing energy landscape. You will lead engagements for U.S. clients grappling with the complex energy transformation journey, requiring deep knowledge of the utilities/energy industry, problem-solving skills, and relevant strategy consulting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Client Responsibilities:
    • Understand your client’s business challenges as they look to complete the energy transition
    • Own and develop client relationships within the utilities industry and adjacent industries
    • Support the strategy, design, and delivery of project workstreams
    • Coordinate and facilitate meetings with clients and their stakeholders
    • Prepare and communicate solutions through well-organized, effective reports and presentations
    • Engage in the business development process, including delivering documentation and requests for proposals
  • Project Lead Responsibilities:
    • Lead and manage day-to-day internal teams across multiple workstreams
    • Foster a feedback culture through coaching and mentoring team members to ensure quality analysis and deliverables
    • Provide input to project directors and partners in an open and collaborative environment to guide project delivery on technical and strategic levels
    • Demonstrate strong facilitation skills by leading workshops and communicating complex information clearly
    • Develop key strategy storylines throughout the lifecycle of project engagements
    • Build business models utilizing numerous inputs to analyze multiple scenarios
    • Demonstrate a refined understanding of organizational structures and oversee the development of target operating models
    • Create detailed and thorough strategy roadmaps for effective and efficient implementation
    • Identify and understand how macro trends, competition, and regulatory environments influence strategy development for utilities

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident due to the nature of client engagements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics, environmental science, or a related discipline AND seven (7+) years of relevant post-graduation industry or consulting experience; OR
  • Master’s degree in engineering, business, economics, environmental science, or a related discipline AND five (5+) years of relevant post-graduation industry or consulting experience
  • Strategy background from an equivalent consulting firm, with a preference in the utilities industry
  • Deep understanding of business and project management fundamentals
  • Proven business development experience, with a track record of selling and delivering work within the utilities or energy industry
  • Advanced experience creating and developing business and financial models in Microsoft Excel
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, with comfort leveraging AI tools to enhance workflow
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly process complex information and present it clearly
  • Ability to manage several tasks simultaneously and deliver against tight deadlines in fast-paced environments
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations to executive audiences
  • Track record of leading and managing teams effectively
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed organizational and management skills
  • An inquisitive nature and desire for continuous improvement
  • Tireless attention to detail in all prior academic and professional experience
  • Ability to travel weekly as required
  • Ability to work onsite in a Guidehouse Office or Client Office location 1–3 days per week

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference for candidates residing within 50 miles of a Guidehouse Office listed in the posting
  • Advanced degree
  • Experience working at the convergence with the energy industry (e.g., automotive or technology)

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $149,000.00–$248,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on skill sets, experience, training, security clearances, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
