About the Role

Performs diagnostic and service work on commercial (5+ tons) HVAC equipment and accessories under minimal supervision. Communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete satisfaction. Promotes products and services to customers and works under the direction of the Field Supervisor or General Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Perform commercial service and maintenance calls with minimal supervision.
  • Analyze, diagnose, and resolve customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Service heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment, including accessories.
  • Inspect equipment and perform diagnostics to identify potential problems and prevent premature breakdowns or callbacks.
  • Complete routine maintenance and equipment cleaning as required.
  • Deliver and remove parts and equipment needed for service work.
  • Record all required information on customer calls using a hand-held device; complete all forms and paperwork neatly and accurately.
  • Collect payment from customers.
  • Communicate with dispatch to provide accurate status updates on activities and availability.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and sustain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Promote products and services to customers; report sales leads to the Sales and Service Coordinator.
  • Maintain and properly account for company property, vehicles, and tools.
  • Represent the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters.
  • Follow standard procedures, ensure company vehicles are properly stocked, return defective warranty parts, and replenish vehicle stock as needed.
  • Perform similar or other duties as assigned.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Report unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards to a supervisor immediately.
  • Report any contravention of legislation or company policy to a supervisor.
  • Correct substandard acts or conditions within your control.
  • Use and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Never remove or disable safety guards, devices, or clothing.
  • Comply with company safety programs and procedures.
  • Operate devices or equipment as prescribed by company safety programs.
  • Participate in safety initiatives, teams, or committees.
  • Report all injuries or incidents immediately as prescribed by company procedures.
  • Provide input on developing safety initiatives to eliminate accident exposures.
  • Avoid actions that may endanger the safety or well-being of others.
  • Refrain from engaging in pranks, contests, or rough behavior.
  • Work in compliance with applicable legislative requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with additional training and 5+ years of HVAC experience; technical training certification required.
  • Must possess all valid licensing or certification required by federal, state, provincial, or local laws for the geographical work area (e.g., EPA and safety certifications).
  • Skilled at servicing heating, air conditioning, ventilation equipment, and related accessories.
  • Proficient mechanical aptitude and ability to operate necessary tools and equipment.
  • Proficient at reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems.
  • Able to start up and balance airflow, align belts and pulleys on systems with little to no supervision.
  • Able to install basic duct fittings.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting and repairing electronic air cleaners, refrigeration systems, hot water systems, steam boiler systems, humidifiers, and related equipment with little to no supervision.
  • Effective communication skills to resolve customer issues, complaints, or concerns.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Available to work flexible hours and on-call shifts as needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces.
  • Ability to continually climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, dry, humid, slippery surfaces, heights, and congested areas.
  • Ability to safely climb 300lb load capacity rated ladders with a 30lb tool belt.
  • Natural or corrected vision for close, distance, and peripheral vision with normal depth perception.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
