Commercial Scrap Metal Buyer
About the role
SA Recycling is seeking an experienced Commercial Scrap Metal Buyer to join our growing Georgia Region, supporting North Atlanta, Gwinnett, Cartersville, and Gainesville locations. You will grow and manage a book of business consisting of Commercial, Industrial, and Dealer accounts for both Ferrous (FE) and Non-Ferrous (NF) materials. As the face of SA Recycling, you will build, deepen, and support long-lasting relationships with assigned accounts while negotiating pricing and service agreements to increase volume and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals and materials to grow margins, volume, and market share.
- Deepen market share by actively identifying and securing new commercial, industrial, and dealer accounts.
- Purchase scrap metals and materials following current market conditions and within pricing standards set by the General Manager and National Sales Team.
- Conduct regularly scheduled supplier visits and sales activities to strengthen relationships and stay updated on business and market conditions.
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations to ensure compliance in purchasing and processing materials.
- Demonstrate exceptional and ethical customer service and sales skills to ensure repeat business.
- Participate in the development of regional and individual purchasing, marketing, and profitability goals.
- Maintain accurate records for all purchasing, sourcing, prospecting, and follow-up activities.
- Partner with facility General Managers to inspect scrap metals and materials to ensure specification, volume, and pricing targets.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in Sales, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; or 4 years of Buyer (Account Management) experience in the scrap metals recycling industry.
- Strong contract negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Experience identifying and securing new business opportunities.
- Demonstrated buying/selling skills and product knowledge in the scrap metals recycling industry (preferred).
- Ability to generate and qualify leads and close deals.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
- Proficient in MS Office programs; SAI or similar software experience is a plus.
