Commercial Roofing Estimator
About the role
The Commercial Roofing Estimator plays a critical role in project success from the very beginning. In this role, you’ll assess project scope, perform roof inspections, develop accurate estimates, and partner closely with the sales team to win work and support seamless project execution. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong technical expertise in commercial roofing who enjoys problem-solving, building relationships, and contributing directly to company growth.
Responsibilities
- Carry out roof inspections and assess project scope both onsite and through plans/specifications.
- Prepare detailed estimates, proposals, and bid packages for commercial roofing projects including repairs, reroofs, and new construction.
- Collaborate with the sales team to support closing opportunities and provide technical expertise.
- Engage with clients to understand their needs and recommend tailored roofing solutions.
- Respond to RFIs and provide clear, accurate project information.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and industry partners.
- Negotiate pricing and project terms with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive bids.
- Actively follow up on proposals and leads to drive sales and strengthen client relationships.
- Pursue new business opportunities to expand market share.
- Ensure a smooth handoff of awarded projects to the production team.
- Continuously evaluate project variables, risks, and opportunities to deliver customer-focused solutions.
Requirements
- 3 - 5+ years of experience estimating commercial roofing projects.
- Strong knowledge of commercial roofing systems including BUR, modified bitumen, EPDM, TPO, PVC, metal, and shingles.
- Familiarity with manufacturers such as GAF, Carlisle, Versico, Elevate, and others.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with the ability to accurately calculate costs and quantities.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction documents.
- Experience with estimating and takeoff software such as Stack, Edge, or similar tools.
- Comfortable using CRM systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients and internal teams.
- Highly organized with strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-focused with strong problem-solving abilities.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Professional Certifications: Consideration for candidates with relevant certifications such as RMI (Roofing Master Instructor) or NRC (National Roofing Contractors Association).
