About the Role
Small Business Lending, LLC, a subsidiary of NewtekOne®, is seeking a Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Manager to join its team. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of existing commercial real estate banking relationships and underwriting new commercial real estate loan requests, ensuring adherence to the Bank's credit policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management practices.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of commercial real estate loan relationships, ensuring strong portfolio performance and asset quality.
- Underwrite new commercial real estate credit requests, including new loan originations, renewals, modifications, extensions, and refinancing opportunities.
- Assess the creditworthiness of existing and prospective borrowers through comprehensive analysis.
- Prepare detailed credit memoranda, annual relationship reviews, and risk rating recommendations in accordance with Bank policy.
- Monitor portfolio performance by tracking loan maturities, past due credits, covenant compliance, and financial reporting requirements.
- Request, review, and analyze borrower financial statements, tax returns, rent rolls, operating statements, appraisals, environmental reports, and other third-party due diligence reports.
- Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, lending guidelines, and applicable federal and state banking regulations.
- Identify emerging credit issues and proactively communicate concerns to management, recommending appropriate action plans to mitigate risk and potential losses.
- Partner with Relationship Managers, Credit Administration, Loan Operations, and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely servicing and ongoing management of the portfolio.
- Maintain accurate loan files and ensure documentation supports sound credit decisions.
- Stay current on commercial real estate market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory developments that may impact the portfolio.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of commercial real estate and/or commercial & industrial (CRE/C&I) underwriting experience.
- Minimum of four (4) years of commercial real estate and/or C&I portfolio management experience within a banking environment.
- Experience managing a commercial real estate portfolio in the New York City metropolitan market is strongly preferred.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of commercial real estate lending, underwriting principles, and credit risk management.
- Thorough understanding of commercial real estate markets, property types, market dynamics, and industry trends.
- Working knowledge of commercial banking regulations, credit policies, and loan documentation.
- Strong financial analysis, credit underwriting, and cash flow modeling skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present credit recommendations and risk assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision-making.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field is required.
Pay
Salary Range: $110,000-$140,000 per year
