About the role
Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains piping systems for commercial production. Processes piping systems while directing a field crew. Ability to interpret and follow schedules. Assists Site Superintendent with day-to-day activities of field crew. In addition to supervisory responsibility, this position is that of a working foreman, responsible for directly performing a wide range of skilled construction tasks.
Responsibilities
- Supervises field crew, subcontractor and craft activities, including determining method of construction, manpower levels, material quantities equipment, mechanical, scheduling and documentation
- Interprets sketches, blue prints and isometric drawings
- Oversees layout, rigging and transportation of pipe, valves and fittings
- Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions
- Works pipe crews safely and productively in an outdoor or indoor manufacturing, process facility
- Responsible for performing a wide range of skilled construction tasks
- Tracks time sheets, plan/schedule work and generate material takeoff's from plans as needed
- Plans sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers
- Manages installation of pipe systems and related materials and equipment, such as supports and hangers, according to job specifications
- Tests piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks
- Loads, transports and unloads materials, tools, equipment and supplies
- Comfortable working at heights
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 8+ years pipe fitting experience
- Proven ability to effectively manage and lead teams of 8 to 10 individuals, ensuring high productivity, team cohesion, and successful project outcomes
- Capable of reading/understanding drawings & P&ID's
- Must be able to use a computer for access to project models and electronic drawings
- Knowledge to field measure/layout of pipe systems in the field
- Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills
- Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
- Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned
Work Environment
- May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness
- May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
- May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights
Physical Demands
- Routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
- While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
Travel
May require travel (typically not overnight)
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of Pipe experience and 5+ years holding a managerial or Foreman position
- Prior military experience
- HS diploma or GED equivalent
