About the role

The Commercial Lender is responsible for contributing to the department's growth and profitability with an extensive focus on business development activities. The employee develops and retains business relationships by meeting the financial services needs of commercial businesses. Additionally, the role involves successfully managing a portfolio of commercial banking relationships.

This position requires extensive contact with customers, vendors, the general public, and bank staff. The employee must interact in a professional and courteous manner to enhance the overall efficiency and image of the bank.

Responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed annual loan production goals set by management.
  • Obtain loan applications and interview clients. Analyze financial and related data to determine creditworthiness, appropriate pricing, and loan structure while ensuring prompt and fair service regardless of approval or denial.
  • Confirm loan documentation is complete and correct prior to closing to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations as well as bank policy. Review all credit reports, financial statements, tax returns, title insurance commitments, and appraisals before closings.
  • Monitor loan delinquency and proactively identify credit problems. Manage loan accounts for current documentation, performance, and total bank relationship. Respond promptly to exception and compliance error reporting to prevent or minimize potential losses.
  • Stay current on loan programs, lending regulations (federal and state), and all compliance and bank policies. Participate in the preparation and presentation of commercial training sessions.
  • Assist in processing new loan requests by approving, declining (if within lending limitations), or submitting recommendations to the loan committee. Support other Glacier Bank commercial lenders as needed.
  • Meet or exceed annual loan production goals. Maintain a delinquency ratio of not more than 1%. Cross-sell bank products and refer clients to other departments or affiliate banks when appropriate. Maintain an aggressive customer call schedule with a minimum of 100 calls annually on existing and/or prospective customers.
  • Maintain open communication with the Commercial Loan Manager by sharing and accepting suggestions and ideas. Promote teamwork and adapt to change while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Prepare month-end reporting requirements in a timely manner.
  • Embrace the service pledge and provide consistent, extraordinary service to all internal and external customers. Listen to and address customer needs.
  • Participate in required training, staff meetings, and lobby displays.
  • Engage in community service and bank-sponsored activities that align with Glacier Bank’s mission and values.
  • Provide superior internal and external customer service, demonstrating self-governance, courtesy, and respect.
  • Complete required bank training courses within assigned time frames.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Complete assigned online training courses and achieve passing scores by due dates.
  • Represent Glacier Bank professionally, maintaining a positive "can-do" attitude, flexibility, and adaptability to meet bank and customer needs.
  • Maintain a tidy work area and ensure customer privacy.
  • Consistently maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform additional duties as requested or assigned.

  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous lending experience and/or education.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Three to five years of experience as a Commercial Lender.
  • Preferred: A moderate level of banking knowledge.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.

Work Environment

This role is primarily performed indoors in a climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise levels. Occasional travel (less than 10 days per year) may be required by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles, and public transportation, including lodging in public facilities.

  • Must be able to work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day when necessary.
  • Must be able to work extended hours or travel off-site as required or requested by management.
  • Must maintain regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
  • Must be capable of climbing or descending stairs in emergency situations.
  • Specific lifting abilities: Sedentary work involving exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
  • Specific vision abilities: Close visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing computer terminals, extensive reading, and visual inspection involving small details.
